I don't think I've ever drawn Usagi in her first form as Sailor Moon before, so I was inspired to draw something to celebrate the release of the new anime series coming next year
Colouring with Markers is not something I'm used to, but I decided that since it's not often I use my Markers, I would use them. But because I haven't used them in so long...I've become a tad rusty, and ended up sketching this out three times, before I was satisfied with the colouring.
Due to lack of yellow colours, I coloured her hair using Prismacolors. Everything else was a mixture of markers and pencils.
I did attempt to colour her fuku in the manga colours, but unfortunatley, the pink looks more purple. OTL.
Background was a lot of fun to do, I under-estimated the power of my super-glue, and almost stuck my fingers together three times. I think I'll use gloves in future.
Thank you so much, I'm really happy it shows! I was originally going to do a digital background for it, but I felt that traditional would suit it better, I am very happy that you like it, thank you for such a wondeful comment!
That's actually what I was thinking when I submitted this in, that she looked more Zoisite-Moon, but her boots look alot more pink in RL than what they look on here, it's just a shame that I couldn't get it to look more like it actually does.
That would be very interesting to see, I am so psyched about there being a new series, I'm really looking forward to it! I've never actually seen the Live Action though, I've heard alot of mixed comments about it, some saying it's quite good, and others saying that it's quite bad, so I'm unsure if it's worth watching....but as a SM fan, I guess it would be worth giving it a try at least
The problems I had with the live action weren't really storyline related as much (it takes a VERY different view of how the Moon Kingdom was really destroyed and casts the Dark Kingdom in a wholly different light). I actually really did not like the redesigns of the Four Generals, how Princess Serenity just looked like a standard Japanese girl (she only had he long blonde hair when in Sailormoon form - she even had the blonde hair in "Princess Sailormoon" form which was weird considering Princess Serenity had black hair in this version), or how they turned Luna and Artemis into talking plushies. Heavens forbid they be real cats. And making Luna into Sailorluna, who was basically this series' Chibimoon because she had the form of a child, was an OK idea, but very weird for me. Wouldn't she be Sailormau because she's from Planet Mau? Or since they ignored that entirely (only did the first manga arc with a bunch of changes) did it not matter if she really had a planetary affiliation? It made her feel like an animamate.
Another weird thing were the transformations and attacks - they were done with VERY cheesey special effects, and they did weird things like having Sailormoon's leg pulled straight back so it was touching the back of her head while she did... what was it... I think it was Moon Healing Escalation.
Most of what they did - the changes they made - were to sell toys. And although characters like Mercury got a lot more attacks, visually, they were all exactly the same - so it was more like they couldn't remember the attack phrase they used last time, so decided to use a new one this time.
Essentially... it was taking a Magical Girl show and turning it into a Super Sentai show, like Power/Zuu Rangers. Only no giant robots, so they gave them silly and really fake-looking weapons (at least Uranus' Space Sword in Sailormoon looked like a scimitar - these looked like what they were, lame bits of plastic).
If you can overlook the poor quality special effects, the story was a lot deeper in many parts, and in that way, much more engaging. It was more darkly themed like the manga (even though it deviated drastically from their backstories) and featured Sailor V, which was nice.
I think it's a mixed bag myself, and most of the people who were really into PGSM (that I know) also usually either such hardcore fans of Sailormoon they could overlook the bad parts, or were Sentai fans through and through, so loved the SFX and lauded it for what it was - a complex sentai series with some pretty compelling storytelling at times.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it The picture does look alot better, my scanner likes to eat the colours, but it's very vibrant and glittery in RL. It's a shame that even with PS, I couldn't get it to look as good as it does IRL
